I quote:
The Lord is my light and my salvation.
Your presence, O LORD, I seek.
Hide not your face from me;
do not in anger repel your servant.
You are my helper: cast me not off.
end quote
When a sea scout I learned how to read a map, and use a compass plotting my way across mountain peaks, towards the map coordinates where I would meet with my scout leader, and his car to transport me back to my home town. Back in my early teen years I was reassured by the practical help provided by my scout troop leadership composed of serving military personnel, or former military personnel.
The Helper is also known by other names, with the awareness that His presence within our life reflects Our Father's life alive in our own.
In our relationship with The Father there is the understanding that we are invited to reciprocate by doing all that He asks of us, that He in His turn will protect us from all harm, and supply us with all that we will need to implement His plan for our life.
“If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” ~ Psalm 91:9-12
Today's readings invite us to reflect on the gifts that The Father grants us when we choose to listen to His Son speaking to us within our conscious understandings, leading us through our life's journey when we carry out all that He asks of us.
Sacrifice of self reveals our free choice to place Our Father's requests, before our own wants.
Humility reveals a road enabling us to walk the path opening up for us, ordained by Our Father's invitation to let Him become our travelling companion. That friendship grows over time ensuring that our developing trust in His leadership, rewards us with all that will provide us with a life worth all that we invest in the lives of our fellow traveller, called to share our life's journey of self discovery.
Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less. ~ C. S. Lewis
