I quote:
“Stop judging and you will not be judged.
Stop condemning and you will not be condemned.
Forgive and you will be forgiven.
Give, and gifts will be given to you;
a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing,
will be poured into your lap.
For the measure with which you measure
will in return be measured out to you.”
Today's readings address the matter of our treatment of our fellow traveller when judging their behaviour. Our internalised perceptions might well represent a much more diplomatic approach when measuring the behaviour of those who attract our assessments. I've learned from long experience that remaining silent under provocation represents the wisest response. That silence does not represent weakness, rather an understanding that in the heat of the moment, angry words might well be regretted when a fuller picture of the incident emerges leading to recanting. Discretion provides us with patience, sufficient to recognise that we are also prone to misconstrue all that appears clear to our perception.
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.
