Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone. ~ Orson Welles
About one month ago visting a hospital in Thessaloniki, the daughter of a patient I was visiting opened her heart to me, with sadness that she had not been a good daughter to her mother. Anastasia spent a month in intensive care, returning home yesterday to her family. Her daughter, Dimitra is elated that at long last she can become the daughter her mother needs.
Too often we overlook those with whom we work, or socialise as if they were, or are just passing shadows. Human relationships are the foundation of our development into mature adults, whereby we in our turn reciprocate in kind appreciating all who enter our orbit.
Friends are God's way of taking care of us.~ Anon
This morning, over coffee I was asked why I make use of television programmes, and films to illustrate the point that I am attempting to make when posting here. Theatre can more effectively convey the wisdom, that mere words may fail to deliver.
As a boy I was enraptured by the early episodes of "The Twilight Zone 1959" for the high quality scripts, mature acting performances, and the ease with the story delivered its message.
I'm linking a 1955 American television episode, and precursor to The Twilight Zone, in its (surrealistic) attempt to inform its audiences that we should treasure the company of all human beings who enter our orbit, for the influence they will have on our development into a mature human person. Many of my friends, acquaintances, and family members have already entered into their eternal rest. I remember them with joy each, and every day their faces appear in my mind's eye.
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command. ~ John 15:12-15.
