But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. ~ Romans 8:25
During my primary school years my teacher, Chariton Reynolds often reminded my class that Rome was not built in a day.
Mr. Reynolds learned much about patience during his time (1942/1945) as a POW of the Japanese. From Singapore, to Japan Chariton Reynolds suffered day, after day remaining patient with his hardships, knowing that his growing endurance was enabling him to assist his fellow prisoners deal with their physical, and mental health anguish. Many of his mates would not survive their incarceration. On reaching 80 years of age Chariton Reynold visited the military cemetary at Singapore to pay homage to his fallen mates, then on to Japan to honour his mates who had seccumbed to the pressures that their daily work load has imposed on them.
Patience is our investment in our future, whereby we deal with the present moment, one day at a time. When we believe we are close to surrendering to our fear of failure we can ask Our Father for His help encouraging us to walk that extra mile. From my own experience Our Father hears our pleas, responding with an injection of his well being equipping us with the energy, and resilience necessary to take us through another day.
Chariton Reynolds was liberated from his imprisonment in 1945, returning to the United Kingdom where he chose to enter further education, training as a school teacher. He went out of his way to instill in me the awareness that no mountain is too high to climb, with Our Father as our partner escorting us through our life.
“Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus.” ~ Romans 15:5
