and healing every disease and sickness among the people. ~ Matthew 4:23
At our village tavern yesterday evening, discussing divine intervention in the lives of the seriously ill, I was asked why Our Father chose not to heal Bernadette of Lourdes, dying in great pain at 35 years of age. Saint Bernadette had lived with a variety of ailments from her childhood years. I answered, I don't know. There will be times when there is no enlightening answer to a perfectly rational question. The irony here is that the shrine at Lourdes has developed into an oasis for healing the sick, and terminally ill. The next question is also important for those seeking cures, why are just a few healed leading many to return home, living in hope that they will return to full health?
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. ~ H. L. Mencken
Our Father's intervention in our life requires reciprocation on our part, a quid pro quo...inviting us to become His outreach into the lives of those He introduces to us, to assist them per His requests. We will simply know when that moment arrives, inviting us to participate in His grand plan for the human race. When we have completed one task, another will summons us to continue with our journey of growing self awareness.
Our walk of faith is a journey requiring our life time to complete. Healing from our self destructive habits is part of the healing process provided by the divine mystery. In other words it is those subtle hints guiding us out of harm's way, into a much more rewarding life that evidences the intervention of our greatest friend. Just imagine an giant oil tanker navigating the seven seas being able to change its direction, with just a slight turn of the ship's rudder. Much can be achieved when we place our faith in the guidance of Our Father showing us how best to live our life.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
~ Jeremiah 29:11
