Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled

Today's readings provide us with Mary's wonderful declaration, The Magnificat.
Yesterday evening a visitor from the Greek island of Tinos asked me why Jesus' mother, Mary features so prominently visiting us, even today encouraging us to faithfully follow the guidance of Our Saviour. Those supernatural appearances of Mary, mother of Jesus are a reminder that most of us, if not all of us are motivated by visible evidence, not just by that internal whisper inviting us to do all asked of us, by The Saviour. Rather like The Risen Christ invited Doubting Thomas to place his fingers into Jesus' wounds, enabling Thomas' doubts to be transformed into solid belief. That encounter at Emmaus is best understood within our understandings, that The Father delivers on His promises to us, in His good time. The rewards for our faith in God become the evidence, encouraging us to continue our trust in God's word, present in our life.
Mary's visitations (Lourdes, Fatima and many more, over the centuries) invite us to appreciate that her assumption into eternal life, is the reward for all who faithfully follow the call of Our Saviour to do all that He asks of us.
