I quote:
I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,
he will guide you to all truth.
He will not speak on his own,
but he will speak what he hears,
and will declare to you the things that are coming.
end quote
Those who were present at the Pentecost event were witnesses to a mystifying phenomenon beyond their rational understanding.
This morning I was asked to explain the ins, and outs of such phenomena. I replied that I could not, for I was not present to experience all that those who witnessed the event were able to discern. Here lies a dilemma for the those addressing such phenomena using their talent with words. Speculative theories never provide answers of any worth.
Experience is not what happens to a man; it is what he does with what happens to him. ~ Aldous Huxley
When cleaning our refractory I open all the windows ensuring that sunlight penetrates the room, enabling me to see all that needs to be cleaned. My experience cleaning the room with the aid of overhead electric lights left parts of the room in the shade where I missed bread crumbs.
What then phenomenal events that today's readings reference? A wiser man, than I said that our life's experiences are the signs, and wonders that The Holy Spirit delivers to each of us to enact into our life, The Father's plan for our life's journey of self discovery.
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you ~ Romans 8:11
