I quote:
The two disciples recounted what had taken place on the way,
and how Jesus was made known to them
in the breaking of bread.
While they were still speaking about this,
he stood in their midst and said to them,
“Peace be with you.”

The Road to Emmaus encounter is an eye opening episode revealing the eternal presence of Our Saviour accompanying us on our life's journey of self discovery. Despite walking at their side, deeply immersed in conversation, Jesus' two apostles did not recognise Him until He shared His food with them. Then their eyes were opened.
Those signals alerting us to danger ahead, guiding us out of danger, flow into our conscious understandings as if by chance.
Chance being a fine thing were those coincidences merely another fortuitous accident. When a pattern emerges we begin to understand that we are not alone on our journey through life.
The enlightened explorer learns through the lessons that life teaches us, that the road of hard knocks also provides us with the solutions to the obstacles that attempt to block our path when we open our eyes and recognise The One who shepherds us along our road of self discovery.
“The only journey is the one within.”
