I quote:
The people who sit in darkness have seen a great light; on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death, light has arisen.
end quote
My quotation from today's readings reflects metaphor as it relates to being able to see in the darkness, all that our senses fail to recognise. Divine Light guiding us through the ebb, and flow of our life's journey. Lead, kindly light.
There are a multitude of words describing in some way the influence of the inner life on those decisions we make contrary to all that our senses direct us to implement. Intuition, inspiration, hunches, extra sensory perception, instinct, second sight listening to our innermost voice guiding us into safety despite there being no apparent rational reason why we should change our direction leading us into a relationship with The Creator of our life.
Many of us have experienced those moments when out of the blue a déjà vu (already seen, or precognition) incident saves our life by guiding us to turn in another direction, rather than continue along the path we were treading. It can be understood to be a signal to pay special attention to what is taking place ahead of us that our senses cannot begin to detect.
Those out of the ordinary life affirming interventions are an introduction to the inner life that we understand as the presence of Our Saviour inviting us to do all that He asks. When we begin to recognise that these intrusions are a pattern rather than a one off experience, we start to trust the wise advice flowing in our conscious awareness thus beginning a loving, and trusting relationship with Our Saviour.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;...
