"Then Jesus said to his disciples, Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Fathers glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done."
Matt 16: 24-27
Human improvement is from within outward . ~ James Anthony Froude
The inquiring mind has a well established habit of wanting to learn, to acquire experience that satisfies a need to fill an endless void, even infinite in its desire to be supplied with all that life sends us to experience living life to the fullest.
Life also teaches us that much of our inspiration appears to emerge from within our thoughts as if to suggest, that we are being led through our life by our innermost person.
Here lies the dilemma for the inquiring person, beginning to understand that we are being inspired by that which has a life of its own, inviting us to follow its plan for our life, even asking us to discuss matters as if to say, we can travel through life as the best of friends knowing that you can rely on me for your every need.
14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his masterfs business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other . ~ John 15
The inevitable question arises how can we know for certain that we are being inspired by Our Saviour to take this road, and not another that our rational self determines better serves our purpose?
Self serving choices will always feed our ego, sufficiently to close the door to any thought that proceeds from Our Saviour, asking us to serve His plan for our life setting us free to celebrate all that Our Father has planned for us. In our moments of silence when we are alone with our thoughts there is an awareness that we are on the receiving end of advice especially tailored for our well being.
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
~ Matthew 7:24
