I quote:
We saw his star at its rising
and have come to do him homage
end quote
We are familiar with the expression "written in the stars" as if to say an event was foreseen, or predicted. In this particular reference the star leads three "gentiles" to a cave where they discover a newly born king distinguished by the austere surroundings of His birth place.
The visitors had assumed that their gifts for the new born king of gold, frankincense, and myrrh were appropriate for One born into a kingdom where luxury was absent, replaced by all that would be necessary to serve all in need of His presence in their/our lives.
In the Eastern traditions of Christianity, The Epiphany celebrates the arrival of The Light, assisting the faithful child of God to find their way.
This Bible quotation helps us understand the reference of the visit by the three magi:
Jerusalem, stand up! Shine!
Your new day is dawning.
The glory of the Lord
shines brightly on you.
The earth and its people
are covered with darkness,
but the glory of the Lord
is shining upon you.
Nations and kings
will come to the light
of your dawning day.
~ Isaiah 60:1-3
