And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in me will be in you and will give you great confidence as you rest in me. For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world!
I have been requested to revisit an earlier post on strolling down nostalgia lane, an appropriate topic for those of us spending time visiting our early life during our quieter thought filled moments, as a means to cope with the anxieties of the present.
The human condition provides each of us with the opportunity to switch off for a short period day, by day supplying us with vivid memories of times past as if to say, life has more pleasant experiences in store for those who remain calm, and patient with their difficult circumstances.
Meditating each evening in the quietness of our thoughts free from extraneous noise, opens a door permitting Our Saviour to converse with us on those matters that we may have difficulty discussing with others. When we develop a regular habit there is a growing awareness that we are on the receiving end of wisdom encouraging us to trust Him to lead us out of our difficulties.
This clip is from an early Twilight Zone episode "Walking Distance" my all time favourite relating the story of a tired, and desperate business executive caught in a time slip transporting him to his childhood home town meeting himself as a boy, his parents and friends. The captioned scene invites us to eavesdrop on the father, and son.... with dad pleading with his son to return to his present life, thereby permitting the boy to treasure his boyhood years.
Thus, we are reminded that there is only here, and now otherwise known as the present moment.
“Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.”
― Teresa of Avila
