Today, 21st December, 2020 the skies permit us to view an event that may well have been visible to the Three Magi, leading them to the manger in Bethlehem where Jesus of Nazareth was born.
I quote from the captioned article:
Over the years, theologists and enthusiasts alike have speculated that the Biblical Star of Bethlehem that appears in the nativity story of the Gospel of Matthew was actually an instance of a great conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn in disguise. In the story, the bright star guided "wise men from the East" to baby Jesus in Bethlehem.
The article also casts doubt on this speculation, despite there being an awareness that once upon a time the night skies enabled mariners to navigate their ships, leading them safely to their destinations.
That the journeys of the three magi converged in Galilee with optimum timing may well pay tribute to their skills calculating the movements of the stars, or even the thought that they were led by their inner guidance revealing more of Our Father's plans.
It is therefore reasonable to embrace the Scriptural chain of events inviting us to believe that three wise men from eastern countries, each on a separate journey of discovery followed the "Bethlehem star" to a lowly manger where a king had been born.
It is noteworthy that the three magi had been inspired not to trust King Herod the Great's invitation to return to his palace to inform him where this king would be born.
Joseph, and Mary would follow the advice of an angel asking them to flee into Egypt to avoid Herod's slaughter of the innocent.
