In my school days my teachers would ask me whether I had understood the meaning of the lesson that had just been delivered for my comprehension. There would be moments when I would raise my hand to clarify the meaning of something that was not immediately clear to me.
Accumulating knowledge based upon a good memory does not always offer the student understanding of the matter being taught.
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
~ James 3:13
The test of a lesson well understood is our willingness to implement into our life all that has been learnt, rather than the lesson remaining an academic exercise contributing to our library of information.
The wise adage actions speak louder than words is the awareness that a lesson well understood, must be implemented into our life to be appreciated for its value enriching our life to serve the common good.
Wise counselling received from Our Father often conflicts with our own self serving ways, sufficient for our doubts to surface questioning all that invites us to follow the way of Our Saviour. In those moments of doubt Our Father remains patient, teaching us that He understands our concerns, until such time as we are persuaded that His way leads us into better days evidenced by growing trust in Our Father's wise counselling.
Lessons well learnt are those that oblige us to do more than remain a repository of knowledge.
The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD
— Isaiah 11:2
