5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
To acknowledge that we need to self improve is the beginning of a journey growing self awareness, that we have much to learn.
It's often said by wise sages that the ego is our silent partner, with a controlling interest in all that we pretend is our free choice to live as we please. Here lies a dilemma for the ego can deceive its victim into believing that freedom of thought, and action is the result of possessing a superior intellect that the world needs to know more of.
Jesus of Nazareth was often confronted by learned men, well versed in The Laws of Moses determined to prove to their audience that they were better able to speak on God's matters, than a mere peasant from a poverty stricken village called Nazareth.
Many Jews expected God to send them a prophet who would be like Moses, but with even greater power. ~ see Deuteronomy 18.15,18
45 Philip then found Nathanael and said, “We have found the one that Moses and the Prophets wrote about. He is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.”
46 Nathanael asked, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?”
Philip answered, “Come and see.”
~ John 1
Jesus did not fit the image that many anticipated would be greater than the Prophet Moses. They were expecting a king, an educated person. In stead they were confronted by a labourer dressed in simple clothing without a place He could call His home. Jesus was not known for His overwhelming superior knowledge of The Laws of Moses, nor had he received lessons from any of Israel's great teachers. He was perceived by the masses to be a nobody preaching love, and forgiveness for those who chose to be led by The Spirit of God alive in every human person. With the passage of time this perception would change to reflect another reality, that of a man born to serve those who would listen to His words of life, and follow Him until our journey's completion.
10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. ~ Matthew 23
