A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love. ~ Saint Basil
In human relationships it is small, simple actions that trigger positive responses evidencing the healing power that kindness provides for all who are in dire need of being valued, and loved for all that the human person needs to live a happy and fulfilling life
This Washington Post (1) article speaks to the benefits that acts of kindness provide for sick people in need of more than another dose of medicine. Medical personnel over the centuries have well understood that patients receiving support from family, and close friends recover much more rapidly from illness.
Kindness is not measurable under a microscope for it is one of those intangible elements of human behaviour that rewards the giver and the receiver with better health, and an awareness that rising from our bed each morning is worth the effort knowing that loving another human being, and being loved in return is an effective nutrient feeding our immune system sufficiently to reduce the incidence of poor health, and enhance our well being towards living a longer and happier life.
Kindness is much more than speaking supportive words or running errands for a sick neighbour, despite these contributions evidencing our own awareness that we could also be in need of such practical neighbourly assistance at some future date. It is also a willingness on our part to avoid unnecessary judgements directed towards those who might well be less than sensitive when expressing opinions better kept under wraps. In other words we are invited not to repay with the same coin, by rewarding the victim of their difficult circumstances with kindness, born out of love for all needing that which will deliver them from their moments filled with hatred, fed by their unkind conduct.
The best portion of a good man's life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love. ~William Wordsworth
