'[40] "Three days": Not complete days and nights; but part of three days, and three nights taken according to the way that the Hebrews counted their days and nights, viz., from evening to evening.'
The Messiah said that He would be in the "heart of the earth" for three days and three nights. I think that most Catholics believe that He was crucified on a Friday and was resurrected on a Sunday. However, that period of time allows for only two nights to be involved. Is there an official Catholic position that explains the lack of a third night?
