On my first visit to Greece some forty four years ago on an educational tour of ancient sites I visited the ancient temple dedicated to Apollo at Delphi, reading the aphorism inscribed over the portico Γνωρίστε τον εαυτό σας και γίνετε αυτό που είστε "know thyself, and become what you are" it struck me that transformation into who we are becoming would take the enlightened person a life time to accomplish.
The Book of Proberbs, and the Book of Sirach, also known as the Book of Ecclesiasticus introduces its readers to Wisdom.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits…~James 3:17-18
Reasoning as understood by the human person is founded upon an intelligent appreciation, and understanding on any given topic that leads the rational thinker to discern matters according to the facts that are apparent to the senses.
Divine Wisdom invites those who hear its entreaties to embrace its guidance, for She (Wisdom in Greek, and Hebrew is a feminine noun) is never waylaid by prejudice grown out of our life's experiences influencing our understandings when our perceptions lead our way.
Per Proverbs 8, Divine Wisdom is personified as coming from God, yet distinct from Him. This description is reflected in the Johannine Logos, or Word (John 1:1–14)...The Word was made flesh
Wisdom is personified in Proverb 1:20-33 to reveal the words of the teacher of wisdom. She exalts her grandeur and origin inviting ALL (Proverb 8:1-11) to be attentive to her salutary influence in human society (Proverb 8:12-21) for she was privileged to be present at the creation of the world (Proverb 8:22-31). Wisdom promises life and the favour of God to those who embrace Her words, and implement them.
Sirach 24:19-22
Come to me, all who desire me,and be filled with my fruits. You will remember me as sweeter than honey, better to have than the honeycomb. Those who eat of me will hunger still, those who drink of me will thirst for more. Whoever obeys me will not be put to shame, and those who serve me will never go astray.
