Room sales at conventions

I held a room sale at the Atlanta convention, and it was a great experience for me, meeting everyone and getting immediate feedback on my work. I had never been to a room sale, but I took a chance. I am not a professional, and it was kind of nervy for me to show off my work at an event with professionally made outfits.

What are your thoughts on room sales? Are they a positive thing, or a distraction?

I didn't hold a sale at the Oklahoma City event due to flying and luggage issues. I missed it. I started sewing almost from the time I got back home to be prepared for the next convention, but alas, it has not yet been confirmed.

I need to start selling these outfits because I am running out space. Please check the sales page for the next few weeks as I start listing outfits like the ones shown below.

It wasn’t just finding wonderful fashions and accessories, it was basically social hour on steroids. Wandering room to room, greeting old friends, sitting for a chat. Egging each other on to buy little treasures. No one ever said “oh you don’t need that” 🤣
I remember Jackie NJ, Diane from Whidbey, Chassies Classics, MARCIA, and many others. Room sales are so much fun.

Dorothy: Who’s that?
Scarecrow: A strange man with an axe and a can of lube. I’ll ask if he wants to join us?

One word, Bryan…YES!

plus you really get to know people better in the smaller settings.

I learned a lot about what people wanted and what they would pay for.

I actually had people tell me I needed to charge more than I was, while I was just looking to clear some room at home and wanted things to move.

I discovered, at the time, people wanted to see Gene in slacks more. Trent outfits were in demand. Gene suits were popular, gowns were not.

I brought only a few outfits that were made for Grace dolls (rtb101 body), and surprisingly, they all sold!

The best thing was it gave me money to spend at the convention!

Both as a buyer and a seller. Especially if I had someone that would watch my stuff that I was selling so I could wander the halls as well and check things out as a buyer.

Room sale night was always a positive and happy memory for me.

I haven't been to a doll convention in many years. I LOVE shopping at the room sales because....

there is such a diverse group of talented sewers and designers who create things for dolls that are not mass produced. Your fashions look great!

Agree! Not everyone wanted a table, but some people wanted to be able to sell…

Some of their excess or some small quantities of their designs. I always loved that about the conventions.

There were a few conventions that would not allow room sales over the years, and I always felt that was a bit mean. The folks that can afford a table in the sales room of course are welcome to do so, but not everyone is selling to make a massive profit - some just want to share their work.

These are lovely. I'd say you are more professional than you give yourself credit.
