designers studios, I often wonder how many actual brides saw such a photo and knew they had found their gown. They would have to come from a wealthy family to afford ordering a Paris original. I guess a middle class girl would take the photo to a neighborhood dressmaker and ask her to copy the gown.

alot. The college girls had the photo and they would copy as close as possible. weeks later the black girls would come in and want the same thing but the shop made sure to change a few things to not look like the college gal's dress.

So true, and I'd try to do the same.
