PayPal Changes effective 9/12

In case anyone has a backup bank setup for their PayPal Debit Card, effective 9/12 that feature has been removed, and if you want to use PayPal you will have to add funds in order to use PayPal. I only found out as I tried to pay with friends and family and was declined. Surprize!!!

I didn't even realize Paypal had their own debit card...--->

I hardly use Paypal except for buying from someone on Studio Commissary! I add my credit card to send money to F&F, then delete my card. I don't save my credit card anywhere! More trouble I know.

So if I buy shoes on line and want to use PAyPAl I need to load it with $$ first?

I think it only affects purchases made with your PayPal Debit Card (if you have one)...

If you are using the PayPal site or checking out with PayPal on a merchant site, your purchase can be funded by your balance, credit card or bank transfer.

If you have a PayPal Debit Card (a Mastercard that allows you to "charge" things against your PayPal balance), it will no longer have a back up funding source. You can only used the debit card for as much as you have in your PayPal account. I think that's pretty much typical with any kind of bank account debit card unless you have a line of credit.

Perhaps better to use your bank card for most purchases as they stopped the buyer guarantee too

to whoever you're sending $$ to.....protection for you and for the seller. The fee is really quite nominal and it is what it is.....IOW cost of buying sh*t on the internet!!!! LOL You can go to this website and figure out how much to send so the right amount gets to the person....https://thefeecalculator.com/

I usually have a small balance and I have a PP credit card. I use their long credit, too.

Never had a problem in 23 years.

That may also not work if you funding source is anything other than your PayPal balance.

secure holding institution for funds. I use a dedicated CC....strictly for PP purchases and pay it off every month. Yes, there is a small charge for using it, but the protection from using a CC (you can dispute a purchase to your CC company if needed) is important for me. Other than that....I got nothing!!!!

they don't let me go in to my account because I haven't provided them a Cell Phone # as an extra
precaution and way of notifying me of any questionable activity on my account. I actually do not have a Cell Phone, I refuse to go down that rabbit hole of addiction. Besides, my account got hacked a year or so ago do to wrong information on Google. I no longer use my Pay Pal account and don't
expect much money to be there in my account.

I just had that happen on eBay and thought it was the wrong card.

Yes...also the hold times are up to an hour to talk to someone.
