and find a way to watch The Reluctant Debutante, actually a much better movie than Les Girls. Another fascinating show biz bio is Lilli Palmer's Change Lobsters and Dance. Lilli was married to Rex Harrison, but he fell in love with Kay Kendall and asked her for a divorce. A short time into his marriage to Kay, her doctor informed Rex that Kay was very seriously ill and would probably die rather soon. This was at a time when there were not even any treatments for cancer. It was simply a death sentence.
This was also a point in time when it seemed better to keep bad news from a sick person so that they could enjoy what life they had. Rex went to Lilli and told her the sad story, then said the only way he could go on being brave for Kay and keeping the truth from her was if, after Kay died, she agreed to take him back. She told him she would, to ease his life, but had no intention of doing so. Didn't matter, because when Kay died (just after her 30th birthday) Rex had moved on to someone else. You can't make this stuff up!
