Theme Question: Which movies/TV shows feature 1950s dept. store scenes? >>

I just love these scenes when they show up, whether in movies filed in the 1950s, or in period movies depicting the 50s.

Some really capture the splendor and richness of these now-gone shopping spaces. And, given the period, the clothes usually follow suit.

Off the top of my head, movies/TV featuring significant department store scenes:

Vertigo
Carol
The Master
Bundle of Joy (1956)
Mad Men
Velvet (Spanish TV series)

We watched the movie with my kids over Thanksgiving. Not only did they not know who any of the actresses were but I painfully had to explain the premise of just 'getting over' your husband cheating on you. But I love The Women Jungle Red!

Not so much for pictures but they have plenty of information about real stores that existed in the golden age of department stores, organized by state and then city. he hasn't updated in a while which is frustrating.

Special message for Kathy in Dayton, here on the Commissary, I have posted on the site about Rikes in Dayton, Ohio! I posted my memory of Bob Slack! I still have the picture he took of all of us in the conference room when I was leaving Rikes! I am wearing the baseball cap with Viking horns the staff gave me because I was Norwegian! Do you remember that?!
