Artist Gilbert Baker designed the rainbow flag as a symbol of LGBTQ rights; it debuted in San Francisco’s Gay Freedom Day parade on June 25, 1978. Baker later explained his colorful design: “We needed something to express our joy, our beauty, our power. And the rainbow did that.” |
