How I removed the cup… Archived Message

I couldn’t stand it…I decided to see just how difficult it would be to remove the cocoa cups. Easy-peasy! Here’s what i did, keeping in mind that not everyone has a trove of tools. All you need is a pair of regular plyers and a fingernail file/emery board and a box cutter style blade is helpful. First I grabbed the red pug on the inside of the lid with the plyers and squeezed. Keep rotating the plyers around the plug and squeeze firmly. The object is to make the size of the plug smaller. Eventually you should be able to gently pull the cup out of the lid, separating from the red plug. The cup should look something like this… If you saved the cardboard insert, you can put it back inside the lid. I think this seals well enough to keep the toppers for a while. To smooth the bottom of the cup, my first thought was to grab the Dremel. But realizing maybe not everyone owns one, I decided to sand it first with the rough side of a large emery board. Then I switched to the nail file from Dollartree (I think there are like 3 or 4 in a package). I was worried I would mess up the bottom/scratch the plastic bottom of the cup. So I stopped filing while there was still a tiny lip left. Turns out, the plastic is pretty soft so I carefully took little slivers of the plastic off with the blade until it was all gone. It took less time to do than it is taking to write about it! And, wow, magnifying the pic makes the cup look really rough, but it isn’t. Also, if the hole bothers you, I suppose you could fill it in with some air-dry clay and then paint it. I don’t plan to go to that extreme though. And the final results: Enjoy!
