I think this is all a matter of habit. Some people are so engrossed in one system of communication that they are hesitant to venture out into others - Visits became phone calls, Letters became emails which became texts. Facebook is the outcome. I am not on Facebook. I do not wish to be on Facebook because I have a plethora of crazy cousins who insist on sharing their whacked-out political beliefs on all and sundry. They hounded my mother who would not unfriend them because they were family. I find it easiest to not participate. One the other hand, I feel I am missing out by not having access to The World of Miss Gene Marshall and other sites. I sew for the Grace Fitzpatrick doll on the Virtual Doll Convention and yet I have never seen a comment good or bad about my work since it is done on Facebook. I feel very much that the commissary is a home. I feel welcome in commenting, and also feel I have made a great number of friends, as evidenced by the very personal comments in my Christmas cards. There is care and compassion here that I don't think my mother ever felt on Facebook. There are people for whom Facebook is everything. They live with the phone in their face during most hours of the day, afraid they will miss something. I prefer to live life and see the world around me. Sorry if I have upset anyone, but sometimes you just need to vent.
