Michael is correct in that this is not a prototype or sample -- it is how the factory packaged the production fashions delivered to me. (And only one of many cases when instructions have been completely ignored! )
I can still remember my excitement in recieving the shipment in anticipation of that first viewing...turning quickly to disappointment, then horror seeing that it was not at all the special commemorative that was planned for Gene's 10 year attendees!
Much credit goes to George Sarofeen for his unnerved support and help in transforming it into the dress presented at convention!
Who knows...maybe it was the knowledge of it being AD's last year with Gene, or Joan Greene's early departure from the company... But this was just one of the "surprises" the factory had in store for us that year -- which, thanks to the hard work of many dedicated volunteers we were able to turn around in time for presentation at convention.
This Gene convention was very special to me, for many reasons!
I will always remember 2005 as one of the most momentous years of my life -- heartwarming and sad at the same time. I am very grateful to all who contributed to that and supported me along the way.
It's great that you were able to get this rare piece of history!
And thanks for the memories -- I'm always happy to share info about fashions from any of the conventions I produced...
