My grandmother was French, unabashedly French. She always had those huge grey French geese on the farm, the ones with the big beaks. Well let me tell you, as kids, they terrified me and my cousins! They would chase us around the farm yard, honking loudly, their 6 ft wing span flapping. They always tried to nip the back of our legs. They were just MEAN! We tried to avoid them at all costs. Now she had them because it’s just not a French Christmas without roast goose and fois gras. So each year that’s what was on the holiday table. And each year I and my cousins would cheer! One less goose! But alas, they reproduced like clockwork and they still chased us. It’s the trauma of my youth. 😳
