I remember while working at Western on The Great Gatsby with Mia Farrow >>>
we were fitting lot of vintage chiffon dresses from stock for extras to wear in a party scene. The saddest thing was that all those fragile dresses had been stored on wooden hangers. We spent so much time repairing damage to the shoulders that was completely preventable. In later years, things finally got stored properly, and valuable pieces were kept in a lock up, but by then there had been so much theft and damage. Of course nothing compared to the history that was practically given away at the MGM auction. As we all know, Debbie Reynolds stepped in for decades purchasing what she could, but the industry was unwilling then to give her collection the home it deserved, so she auctioned it off. So much history scattered all over the world!
