This is a great story! It reminds me of a story a friend of mine has >>>
Back in the early days of eBay my friend emailed me there was a dress he wanted to buy off eBay. He said he believed it was from the Funny Girl movie in the scene she sings PEOPLE. He contacted the seller and she said she bought it at an estate sale. The sale was from someone who worked at a studio costume department. She said the house was filled with costumes most likely stolen. She found the dress in a bag all rolled up. He ended up winning the auction for $1300. When he got the dress he took it to Barbara Matera who's studio made the film costumes for Irene Scharaff. She confirmed it was the original and that only one was made. Barbra Streisand's lawyer contacted my friend wanting to buy it off him a few years later, but he declined. He has loaned it out for a couple exhibitions.
