And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served (that were beyond the flood) or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but I and mine house will serve the Lord.
Then the people answered and said, God forbid, that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods.
Joshua 24:15-16 The Holy Bible, Geneva 1599

The atheist debate
Posted by Pastor Darren on June 5, 2011, 12:12 pm
It had finally happened. I had gotten into a discussion with a well knowledge atheist. This guy read books and studied for many years and was very knowledgeable, in scientific research and theory. Now I must admit that I felt intimidated because I was at work and he approached me out of the blue and caught me totally unprepared and unable to have this conversation. Now I don't mean I was unprepared by lack of knowledge. I mean I was blindsided and he would not let me make my point. He would jump in before I was even finished. By the time the conversation ended I felt beat down. Like I was in a boxing ring and was hit by a cheap shot before the bell and he didn't let up. Mentally I was exhausted. I had to finish the task my boss asked me to do and now had little time to do it. So at this point my mind was a blender trying to puree a rock.
I came to the conclusion that I had been demonically attacked. Am I saying atheist are of the devil? No I will leave that up to you to make that determination. But let me offer this to you.
Jesus made this point after he was questioned by the Pharisees. And it is a look into the mind of Christ when it comes to atheist. Jesus plainly stated
"Anyone who is not for me is really against me; anyone who does not help me gather is really scattering. For this reason I tell you: people can be forgiven any sin and any evil thing they say; but whoever says evil things against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven."
Matthew 12:30-31
We know that Satan is the great deceiver. So in theory atheism is a demonic belief but the atheist themselves are not. They have just been deceived by Satan and his ability to control the though process through the use of "logical" reasoning. They say they are open minded and free thinkers. They need scientific proof. Something they can hold in their hands. Touching and feeling it before they can believe. So to them they feel science is that proof. But faith to a Christian is a sense of knowing without any physical proof. We just simply believe. Trust in our feelings and knowledge of what we know to be true. And this knowledge can never be felt by an atheist because they cannot open their minds to the possibility and probability that GOD does exist.
Now can it be deemed as just a warm and fluffy feeling? Absolutely! By someone who has never experienced the moving of the Spirit first hand. And until they do faith in GOD will always be nothing more then a theory.
The guy I talked to asked me a question that really hit me hard was this. "Why do you believe in GOD?" This sent me into a defensive mode. I quickly racked my brain to give him some answer that he couldn't counteract. But GOD doesn't allow my mind to work that way. I am not a Theologian so this is what GOD put in my head. I told him, "I don't believe Semi trucks exist." This confused him because we see semi trucks everyday. As a matter of fact where we were is located right behind a truck stop. He said that was insane to think that because there were several in the truck stop. He said, "They're right there." I told him "Prove it." He said, "I can take you over there and have you touch them." I asked him, "What makes you think you can make me go over and touch them?" Then I told him this. I can go and stand on a freeway and have a semi speed toward me and stand there screaming "YOU DON"T EXIST.". It's not going to change the fact that in a few seconds I am going to be forcibly evolved into a pancake.
Now in closing I want to say this. First, the guy is really a good guy and I do like him and respect him to a point. I will continually pray for him. And second, GOD does exist. And all we can do is offer our "theory" it's up to them to either accept or reject it. GOD didn't call us to make Christian believers. That's HIS job. But HE did call us to plant the seed and only GOD can make that seed grow.
Have a blessed week beloved.

Brother Darren,
Another way to look at these people is that they really do have faith, it just gets in the way of what they want to do. I praise God that you withstood this demonic attack! Stay in prayer and The Word because as Brother Joe said, there will be others."Here is the patience of the Saints: those here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." Rev. 14:12 (Geneva 1560)

Atheist actually have great faith, they just don’t realize it. It take's great faith in inaccurate scientology to spend many years out of their lives searching for the facts that Christians learned when they were children.

I am glad you had this experience, and that God prevailed, bringing you past it.
Next time (and there will be a next time), you are that much more prepared.
Amen to all your comments. It's funny how they can put faith in humanity and it's "knowledge", but ignore the fact that Christ simply wants to love them. I guess this is what scares the snot out of them.....to be loved unconditionally. Frightening!!
