I still have an old DAB tuner that predates DAB+. When selecting a DAB+ service, it will randomly select one of its capable bit rates in a failed attempt to decode it. I have seen it showing as high as 384kbps MP2 ! That would be hard to tell from CD quality if ever used and probably only bettered by NICAM in the past.

The highest I ever remember being broadcast was 256kbps for the BBC Nationals around the launch of DAB in the mid 1990's. And without the audio processing/clipping used today, the quality and dynamic range on decent Hi Fi equipment was amazing. I suppose you can get the same or better quality today online with the high end BBC 320k AAC streams but it's sad to see DAB in the UK reduced to an inferior low fi medium.
