The interesting thing when people recall their memories and try to check the details of the facts, you end up getting the winners version.
When you hear about Radio Caroline and I've read many books and accounts of its history you will always get a slightly different version.
But safe to say Neil is right, most of the money seems to have come from Jocelyn Stevens and his friends/contacts or people he networked with. Ronan was obviously great at bringing people together and befriending Alan Crawford helped. A number of people were interested in getting commercial radio up and running in the UK, but as for finding every Tom, Dick and Harry involved you have no chance of being 100% sure of the facts. Safe to say this Radio station was the first, Ronan obviuosly had a huge influence on keeping it going and worked hard on the project to bring people together to get it started and now 62 years later this Radio station has had an influence on millions of peoples lives by either bringing employment, excitement, entertainment and friendship between many people. I'm just glad to have been around in a part of the country where it has influenced my musical education and brought me friendship and fun over my many years and may it continue and help others for many years to come.
And while I'm at it, thanks to everyone involved in the North broadcast this weekend, it was very enjoyable.
