Well if you would rather use an outdated browser with security holes through it, then don't let it update. The updates are there to protect you and to keep your system safe, they can't take more than a minute to do.
Anyway Firefox last updated on the 16th of February, that's a week ago, hardly what I would call constant updates. Maybe it is any updates you added that are updating?
