it has been noted that the weekend before last was the 40th anniversary of the opening of 'WBEN' 98FM in Cork, one of the more interesting pirates there while it lasted.
The current weekend 1980s music 'free radio station' that can be received in most of Cork city on 106,7fm (having moved from 104,8fm recently) actually had 'WBEN' on its RDS display in remembrance that weekend.

Its sad to note that the death took place a few weeks ago in Trinidad/Tobago of one of the WBEN DJs, Eamonn Littrean who used the on-air name 'Scott Shannon' on WBEN back then, RIP:
