The advantage of the Inverted L antenna, (or "7"shape used by Laser) is all down to...
How far apart you can install the supporting poles or masts, If your garden is short,
the Inverted L will work better than a traditional Marconi "T" shape,
Because the Horizontal part, is effectively twice the length of the Marconi "T" type
(for the same support mast spacing) allowing resonance with less base loading coil needed
but the important thing is, to get the Vertical section as high as possible...
You could always use the wartime spy sets idea, of a small filament lamp,
in series with antenna feed point, tune for max brightness, (showing the max current peak)
then they had a switch to short the lamp out to TX, clever stuff
