It would easily have been receivable in North Cornwall in 1985. ABC Radio's 1026 was rarely run at low power and the 1kW put a good signal into North Cornwall and West Wales, as well as the primary reception area in South East Ireland. In those days a lot of effort was put into putting out a continuous signal, even running on a generator when scheduled power outages were notified for local grid upgrades. The transmitter was located at Newtown, Tramore (about 8km from Waterford City) and close to the coast.
