Exactly. Well put. A few years ago I bought my stepmum a digital radio. She asked me to tune it into the diabolical Smooth. I did this, with great reluctance. She didn't even last a week listening to the repetitive rot. She could no longer stand the same old dreary songs repeated over and over. Plus, let's not forget that the horrible hosts sound as if they are about to fall asleep.
Today, a district nurse told me she had tried Smooth, but she had to go back listening to Absolute 80s (you can bet, that if Global owned the Absolute network, it would be appalling, because 'appalling' is what Global does best. Not that Bauer is much cop, but at least it ain't Global). Why did the nurse ditch smooth? Easy answer: repetition. Warnings on cigarette packets? There ought to be warnings stuck on all digital radio sets, advising listeners to steer clear of Smooth.
PS: But Bauer knows a thing or two on how to churn out crap. The Absolute stations may be far from good, but listenable... just, but its repetitive Greatest Hits juggernaut really is a disgrace to the airwaves. How the hell does its cloth-eared audience manage to listen to the same songs day in,day out? I don't care if it boasts about being the country's most listened to commercial station. That means nothing, when you take into consideration that its competition is even worse on the ears.
