The problem with turning up the power to eliminate electrical interference is a losing battle in 2023.
Plus AM receiver quality now is very poor. Given a choice I would prefer quality robust reception in built up areas, whether that is possible on SSDAB is questionable even if they go down that route, but listening in the car needs to be easily accessible. At home it's easy to listen via a smart speaker and listening while walking or travelling by public transport is so easy on your mobile and top quality. I think the AM doesn't need anymore investment other than maintenance.
Talking of quality I'm not sure how people can say they prefer AM listening, the recording is listening in my car
