Yes I totally get that problem you mention! This works fine for a station where income isn't necessary but for commercial use it needs to hit the towns and City's within its coverage with a good stable signal you can hardly demonstrate the product to the marketing board of the largest to the single one man band with nothing but buzzing when they should be able to hear what you trying to sell them.

You know back in the 70's you could in fact do this! And its exactly what Caroline did they would walk into a shop / company then radio the ship to tell them mention the shop / company then owners were so impressed 80% of them all signed up! This tale can be found in many of the offshore radio books available I got it from "When Pirates ruled the waves" But also from some of the Dutch Dj's who got involved with My R.N.I and often come over to visit who actually did this very task back then. Sadly today they would not be able to do so because as soon as they would enter the shop / building the signal would disappear under all the buzzing etc.. That would not and did not happen back in the day. I do get your being able to hear signals far better on AM as I am fully aware of how poor the alternatives can be in the more rural locations.
