All sorts of ridiculous false opportunities for the ship to remain at sea and continue broadcasting. So many carrots had been dangled rabbits became amphibious.
There was no hope, the ship ought to have been towed to port voluntarily (a far more dignified end). The late and great King of Blarney would never have approved, neither I suspect would the crew.
For this here who endlessly spout about the pros and cons of Caroline at sea, or any other experience of offshore broadcasting, you haven’t a clue of the shear effort.
