MW is in addition to the alternative signal methods you mention. As you will become aware, the high power costs of staying on MW, will soon be offset by Solar power use. Many people actually prefer MW quality - in a car, where there will always be road noises etc, you hardly notice the difference.
If it comes to Money - can you suggest an alternative, that gives daytime coverage from Suffolk, to Warwickshire, South Yorkshire, Kent & at night - a lot further, even to Scotland - sitting in your car!

Yes, if in your home, the Internet is the best medium to use. &, Mobile phone coverage is an alternative, though it can work out pretty expensive - I just use mine once in a blue moon, with pay as you go! - about £7 a year!
