About the 50hz ref - I can understand very well, the phases have to be synchronised for uploading power to the Grid - I Used to work with Sby Generators that with two running in parallel, needed synchronising of course. It was a very old installation, that sometimes did not synchronise. Long gone now!
So in the case of Orford having a power cut (as happened a while back) Would the local Solar Cells power the TX, assuming enough Sun was available - or would the Cells shut down & not supply power at all during a mains loss? Even if locally isolated from the Grid - I can understand the Safety reasons for that, regarding the engineers working on a fault.
Cheers.
