Chris would change his ideas quite often, as many of you will know.
Signal & Coverage
I dont buy into the negative "It will only reach Liverpool" theory; you obviously know little about propagation (?)
The suggestion it would only cover Liverpool and Dublin is baloney. Ignoring aerial efficiency, just look at the location. The area is nothing at all like Trim, which is 30 miles inland for a start - though they had a nicer aerial. Remember the coverage obtained by Radio Caroline from there using only 10KW and on vastly inferior frequency - 199m at the far end of the MW band. The coverage of 10kW from Ramsey Bay would have been more than economically viable.
Moving frequency from one end of the AM band to the other (ie from 1500 KHz to 550 kHz) generally gives you an advantage of about 9 times signal strength. Now, halving the frequency again (558 down to 279) and you can see why myself, Spangles and the boys from Marconi were all confident that there would be a more than usable signal from a 50 out at sea. NTL did our last coverage projections, and they showed that getting well past Birmingham.
If some of the "Its all over now" doom merchants on here were in charge of getting radio stations up and running, I doubt we would ever have seen any.
" Long wave will never attract listeners". - that was the clarion back in the 1990s, despite old Frantic Atlantic pulling 6m at one stage. And they majored on a playlist of just a couple of dozen disco tracks!
