Interesting comments today. The fact is that it was an experiment and we are aware that other people do it much better. However, the audio quality of some of the recordings was an issue and could be tiresome to listen to for all but the true anorak. We will be migrating the operation to Mixcloud for on-demand listening, and in the meantime we have re-formatted the station to play tracks heard on the offshore stations of the 60s, 70s and 80s, including unusual ones not heard on any other Oldies stations. IMPORTANT NOTICE
As from 14/01/2022 Mermaid Radio has ceased broadcasting radio archives. The reason for this decision is because feedback we have received from our broadcasts of archive offshore radio recordings indicates that too many repeats of the same items are occurring throughout the day. This is unavoidable in the system we use, so the channel will now broadcast with a new format - offshore sounds of the 60s, 70s and 80s. We feel that this station captures the spirit of free radio as it was in its heyday by playing all of the music heard on the offshore stations. There are already numerous Oldies stations, but none of them cover the full spectrum of European pop from the offshore days. We do!
