I just spotted this by pure chance and can inform you that I am the person behind Mermaid Radio. As a lifelong anorak, my collection of archive radio recordings exceeds 1,000 and includes a wealth of material personally recorded by myself over the years. There is still a huge following and interest, both private and academic in offshore radio, and since getting enquiries from the latter sector for accessible material relating to media courses and the history of broadcasting, it was decided to try an experiment of launching a modern "pirate" station which plays the former pirate stations.
Still in Beta mode, the station is evolving and fresh material is being added daily. The idea is if you tune in at some point of the day, you will hear something fresh. Facilities have been added to enable downloads for academic and research purposes.
The operation is fun to do, and we hope just as much fun to listen to. And the pioneers of commercial radio in Europe should always be remembered, acknowledged, and never forgotten.
