32" is a half wave for VHF & around a full wave for DAB.
Yes MW will be very good.
Better still, buy a new amplified Aerial mount (£30.00), the newer ones have an SMD screw connector (not a stud).
If you fit a BNC to SMA adaptor, you can buy a 700mm telescopic with a BNC at the bottom.
It picks up fringe VHF really well, DAB is OK too due to it being a full wave.

The base can be powered from the BLUE AUX wire, which usually supports Aerial motors and any other external amps. Via the ignition, so it is not on until the radio is switched on.
