He knows that the audience for all-news channels in Britain is tiny. There is no viable path to commercial success, as GB News will rapidly discover.
Once the industry folks who are currently watching the channel simply to see the next gaffe fall away, you'll see fractional audience numbers that won't support any measure of realistic advertising revenue.
The channel's biggest problem is not its content. It's a complete lack of editorial vision. You can't point to a single piece of interesting, exclusive journalism on there in their launch week (never a better time to showcase you wares) and while it's not my personal political cup of tea, they could have been doing serious work on immigration, the impact of Covid lockdowns and more. Instead, it's a bunch of idiots running through a laundry list of things they don't like ("vandalism, dontcha hate it").
Talk Radio UK, Times Radio, LBC and 5 Live are all breathing a sigh of relief. This outfit poses no threat to them whatsoever. And with that, I'm off to go and watch the next cock-up.
