I was talking to one of the Last UK builders of DAB transmitters, (that stopped making them)
He Said to me,
"I do see a lot of licence winners giving-up before launching, most finding out that their business plans don’t stack up in the real world.
The on-line stations who sign-up to MUXes quickly lose interest, or run out of money, and so disappear.
For example, South Shields started with 11 stations and are now already down to 3 as far as I understand.
The licensed areas often don’t even cover the distance of most people’s commutes to work.
I just wonder what will happen when a MUX is off-air for 3 weeks - whilst its Italian transmitter is returned abroad for repair!"
So, with lots of listening now done On Line, would money be better spent on Broadband, to make things more reliable
