When looking to set up my studio, I settled on the Rode NT1A - Studio Condenser Microphone. This set me back £151 which came with cradle and cable. I bought from Music Matters. (Via Amazon)
I also bought the matching Rode PSA1 cantilever boom arm, which set me back a futher £79 from Absolute Music Solutions. (Via Amazon).
I have to say I've been very impressed with the Rode NT1A, and use it every week to record my show.
As back-up mic, I bought a Samson C01, which despite the very low price (£54) again from Music Matters, gives exeptionally good results.
In fact, I wish I'd bought the Samson first!!
Just my opinion, but as with most things you might be looking to purchase, I'd say always get the best you can afford, keeping in mind that just because something costs three times as much, there's no gaurantee that the results will be three times better.
Hope this helps someone.
